30 hour oak English tall case clock.
Here we have a very nice smaller size English tall case clock with a colorful painted dial. The oak case is in excellent condition. There is the usual age separation on the base and a small hairline crack in the door glass which I may replace unless the buyer prefers the originality of an old glass. This crack is almost invisible and is across the lower left corner but not even all the way across. The movement features an easy-to-wind chain pull-up so that the owner can wind the clock while his or her breakfast coffee or tea is warming in the morning. The maker was Daniel Oliver who worked in the fabled town of Wellington (home of the well-known Duke of Wellington). He made clocks there from about 1861 to 1883. Wellington is 148 miles South West of London and 15 miles North East of Exeter. There they manufactured serges and earthenware. The town is located on the River Tone. On the back of the colorful dial is a sticker listing an English antiques shop where this clock was evidently once sold. It is from the small community named Williton in Taunton. Height: 79 in. (200.66 cm) Depth: 9 in. (22.86 cm) Width: 17 in. (43.18 cm) Weight: 45
