Tall clock made by, "The Frank Herschede Co., Cincinnati", ca prior to 1902. The solid mahogany case was made in a Cincinnati, Ohio cabinet shop.
Mr. Herschede was so impressed with their cases he bought the company in 1900. He sold hall clock cases to Durfee, Waltham, and others. You might see the same case with another company's movement. This exact case is not shown in the Herschede section of Tran Duy Ly's Longcase Clocks And Standing Regulators book, but is shown in the Waltham section, clock No. 1079. The case is 7' 10 inches high, 26 inches wide. We also cleaned the wood on this clock, fed it some Cotton Cleanser, cleaned and polished all the metal, and checked out the 8-day movement to make sure it was operating properly. The dial has a silver time ring, seconds ring, and moon phase rings, raised numerals, etchings all over, and signed as we indicated in the beginning. Chime-Silent and Strike-Silent switches are on the dial. The bob is brass, stick is nickel and incised all over. There are 5-nickel tubes and two large brass weights. Both doors have key locks, the lower glass has a heavy bevel, there are oval side glasses. The stylish case has four full turned columns, is complete, original, and in excellent condition.
