English bracket clock by, "Robert Wood, London". Rare fusee time and alarm movement.
Note the large alarm hand and 12 Roman numerals above the time dial on the front plate. One winding arbor for the time fusee at the bottom of the dial. Alarm winds by pulling a cord on the right side. The alarm rings until the cord retracts to the case. The silver dial is excellent with etched and black painted numerals, minute indicators and makers name. The front door has a working key lock. The lock on the back door is missing and has been replaced with a brass latch. Ebony wood case is in excellent condition considering the age. Bronze feet, finials, top handle, side screen covers, front door lock, and the front door, are all polished. The case is 19.5 inches high, in immaculately clean condition, and operating properly. The movement, I suspect, is 8 day, and it is also clean and shining. At least 5 different clockmakers with the name Robert Wood, made clocks in London between 1789 and 1820. We believe our Robert Wood was one of the later ones, probably 1820. This is a very collectable early clock that will only appreciate in value.
