Gazo "Rancho Santa Fe", ca 1979. A contemporary hall clock by the Gazo Family Clock Factory of San Diego.
This massive and imposing clock was carved from Alderwood and finished in English Walnut. There are untold carvings and wood shapes and forms beginning with the "Goddess of Love" sculpture on the top. Carved columns each side of the solid etched brass dial, porcelain cartouche numerals and a porcelain seconds dial. Glass in the top and the bottom door. Double chime quarter hour movement plays Westminster and Ave Maria on gongs. Matching etched brass weights and solid cast brass pendulum bob. This stupendous clock stands 94 inches high and is 31 inches wide at the base. Perfect for modern 8 foot ceilings. Not a great number of these were made and it is rare for a collector of Gazo clocks to part with one. We got this one with a large collection when the owner moved to a retirement home. We know of collectors who already have acquired a dozen of the Gazo tall clocks. Internet research thru Google turned up hundreds of Gazo references and sales by antique and clock dealers. This model has generally been selling for $12,500. These clocks are just being recognized and appreciated for their scarcity and collection value.
