Long Run Vienna Regulator, ca 1875, by Wilh. Kollmer, Wien.
Running 30-35 days this one weight movement is not spotlessly clean but with a drop of oil here and there it has been running very strong now for several weeks. It mounts to a cast iron back plate; brass pendulum and weight are certainly period if not original. It has Graham dead beat escapement, fixed anchor, and maintaining power. The large 9 inches two-piece porcelain dial has a few thin hairlines, good sharp Arabic numbers, original hands, and nice porcelain beat scale. The dial is signed with the maker's name, "W. Kollmer, Wien". Mahogany case is 65.5 inches high, with a top piece that could be original or one that has been worked over to appear original. It looks good enough to have always been on the case. Rather than the usual side glasses the solid wood sides are grooved, so is the front of the case and the top piece. All the brass including dial ring, bob, weight, and pulley, have been polished and are in near perfect condition. The case had been in an attic for years and was grimy and looked nothing like a clock you would want in your home. We rubbed some polish-cleaner on the wood that took off most of the smoke and soot, and it now is nice enough to hang in anyone's home. This maker is mentioned as a Vienna clockmaker in 1875 in a June 1999 Bulletin article, page 311.
