Jerome and Darrow, Bristol, Conn. mantel clock, ca 1828-1833.
This firm produced every type of movement and case offered by all competitors. The clock is an eight day, long case, stenciled columns, carved splat and finials on top. The splat and finials are either original or very old replacements. There is no evidence of any other top. To learn more about this movement, case, label, and some general history of this clock case, and the company, read pages 183 thru 200, of "Eli Terry and the Connecticut Shelf Clock", Second Edition Revised, by Kenneth D. Roberts and Snowden Taylor. The mahogany veneered case is 36.5 inches high, only some small chips, but really a great looking case. Nice stenciled columns, carved splat, old tablet has a corner crack, an almost perfect dial, very nice full label, period weights and hands. Excellent overall condition, movement in good running order.
