Southern Calendar Clock Co. "Fashion No. 2", ca 1887.
Walnut veneer case is 31 inches high, clean, rubbed to a furniture finish, has very good veneer, almost no chips. Finials are probably not original but you would never know from the color. This case has some of the best walnut graining and finish I have seen on a Fashion. No doubt it was professionally refinished at some time. The clock was owned by one family for over one hundred years and the dials were never unscrewed from the case until they were recently painted. The same little original screws are holding the dial now as when it was made. The dials were repainted by the Dial House on the original zinc pans. 8 day movement is running, strikes a brass bell each hour. Movements were made by Seth Thomas. Half of the label remains on the door, it says this clock was set to running in 1887. We just don't get Fashion No. 2's any better than this one.
