J. C. Brown Acorn Clock.
Excellent full label inside says, in part, "Eight Day Brass Clocks, Springs with equalized power, warranted not to fail; Manufactured and sold by the Forestville Manufacturing Company, J. C. Brown, Bristol, Conn.". The 8 day fusee movement is signed, "Forestville, M. F. C. Co. Bristol, Ct U S A". This clock is fully restored; replaced and painted dial, replacement Tom Moberg glass (original glass accompanies the clock); some say case was restored years ago, some say it has not been restored. Rosewood case is 19 inches high, excellent veneer has only three tics, back of base and front and back of the top. The clock runs and strikes a coil gong. A very similar Brown acorn clock recently sold at a Bob Schmitt's auction for slightly under $15,000. Reference n" Jonathan Clark Brown and the Forestville Manufacturing Company", by Kenneth D. Roberts and Snowden Taylor, Ph.D.
