French Portico Clock, 8 day time/strike, typical French movement, round, bell strike, outside count.
Gridiron compensating pendulum. Movement is signed "Valery Paris", and "C.T" inside a circle. It is operating properly. Elaborate, sculpted clock with four legs, which are integral with case part that contains the movement; and a fancy sculpted base. Ebonized wood with extensive brass, MOP and blue and red enamel inlays. Very complicated inlay pattern on facing of all four legs, the movement portion, as well as the top and front surface of the base. 4.5 inches enamel dial with minor edge problems at 6 o'clock, but overall excellent and signed "Valery A Paris". Machined bronze sash, no glass of course due to the dome covering. The entire clock sits on a seemingly newer, black painted base into which the rectangular based dome sits. The base seems to be of younger vintage than the clock; the huge dome appears to be old. The clock alone is 24" high; clock and base is 26 inches, with the dome 27.5 inches. The 9 inches by 12 inches base has 4 brass ball feet, so age difference in base and clock may be more apparent than real.
