Baird Advertising Clock, Ca 1895.
This clock was made for Vanner and Prest, oil merchants in London. Molliscorium was an oil for treating harnesses and other leather products. Vanner and Prest was the name of a product used to clean the coat of a horse. Embrocation was a liniment for human use. Most of a "Vanner and Prest" paper label is inside the case. The original dial is signed "Baird Clock Co. Plattsburgh, NY, U.S.A." and the 8 day, time only, movement is also signed the same. This movement was made by Seth Thomas. No one has touched this case since it was made. The reddish wood stain, gold embossed letters, glasses, everything is just like it was 110 years ago. Naturally it is dirty, has some paint splatters, and fingernail scratches on the dial. If you want to restore it, your prerogative. Reference: "Baird Advertising Clocks", by Jerry Maltz. This identical model has been selling up to $1500 at some auctions.
