English Grandfather's Clock, ca. 1800.
80 inches tall oak and mahogany case is in decent shape. There are a few age cracks here and there. Solid arched front door, inlaid on lower case. Glass in upper door replaced, couple chips on flat molding at top of bonnet. Door lock missing, handy repair person fabricated a latch, looks and works fine. Hand painted arch top dial signed "Simpkin and Rillington". John Simpkin was born 1767, died 1834. Dial has seconds bit and calendar dial but the movement doesn't show evidence of ever having a calendar wheel. 8-day movement strikes the hours on a large cast bell mounted to movement. Pendulum, hands and tear drop shaped weights are old. Calendar hand a replacement. Clock runs fine. Overall this is a nice old floor clock with a reasonable starting bid.
