C.1816 [dated], Aaron Willard, Mass Shelf Clock, 2-wt, 8-day bell strike.
Condition: There has been tasteful restoration to this clock. The mahogany case has been nicely refinished; top scroll and finial properly re-newed. The tablet had the background re-painted by Herschel Bert in 1981, and careful inspection reveals a few bits of the original red background. Bill comments that this is the only tablet he has seen with lyres in the top corners and anchors in the lower corners. The dial, hands, pend and weights are original; one old pulley, one new. But the BEST PART is the original tattered sales receipt, penned in Willard's own hand, glued inside the hood which reads as follows: Boston, June 13, 1816 Mr. Horace Collimore bot of Aaron Willard One timpiece @ $35 Received Payment in full Aaron Willard.
