C.1840, English, James Blaik, Peterhead, 8-day 2-wt movement in a likely Irish oak case Condition: This clock has had a hard life, the risers have been shimmed to accept the well made movement. There are several new glue blocks and repairs to the plinth. The finials at top are incorrect. The painted dial is still original, with interesting fans in the corners and a rose in the arch. Pendulum is a modern cast iron replacement. Front feet are a bit short and case tips forward. Despite the attentions that the case needs, it has a good look overall and will respond to restoration. The well made rack strike movement is in good shape, calendar gear intact, with recent cable and ticks strongly. Has desirable 12 xz17" dial. Height 84 inches
