C.1890, E. Howard and Co., Boston, Custom Public clock, 8-day, weight driven in a special order carved walnut case.
Condition: overall very good restored condition. The 10 inch dial is original and there is no touchup evident; mounts at original 4 holes. The attractive case has been refinished. The bottom broke off at some point and has been glued across the carving.. looks OK, but a purist might re-do it. There were originally half dozen small stubby finials on the bottom center of the case, and now only their dowel ends can be seen. The original No. 3 movement is properly signed E. Howard, and is held in with brass tabs; the center mounting hole in the back plate was never threaded, so we can be doubly sure this is the original movement. The pendulum stick was brushed with gold paint at some time; pend length is 32.5"; hold down tab is absent. The pendulum bob retains original design and lacquer intact. Generally an uncommon clock with some small restoration items that a Howard connoisseur can deal with. Height 60 inches
