Condition: the case is in very good condition, with most of the original fire gilding remaining. The movement has not been serviced in some time, and has some pitting, however the maker name is clearly and artfully engraved into the backplate, plus "No. 463". There is no pendulum with this clock. See the cousin to this clock in the Catalogo de Relojes del Patriminio Nacional Page 239 (we highly recommend this hard to find book if you enjoy figural clocks). Also see this clock in FRENCH BRONZE CLOCKS, (Schiffer, 1999), page 64, where E. Niehuser writes: "Aietes, the son of the Sun god, is king of the Kolchis, where the golden fleece is housed. It is the skin of a golden ram, and it is the goal of the Argonauts and their leader Jason to capture the fleece" .. and with it to claim his place in history. Many more stories of Jason and the Argonauts can be found on the internet. The firm LeRoy and Fils was in business for well over a century, and this is certainly a period piece. G.H. Baille puts the first firm of Leroy and Fils as 1817 and No. 151;1824. A rare and desirable clock. Height 25 inches
