C.1839/40, Joseph Ives, Bristol, Conn, Rare 8-Day OG, with Ives unique drive arrangement, allowing the clock to run for 12 days.
Condition: both tablets are original to the door, bottom now clear (original putty indicates it probably had a painted tablet), top tablet with corner crack. Label is good, some fading, but still fully legible. Case has a veneer repair on the lower OG section. The original dial has been touched up in the margin, appears about 80% original. Weights are original. Hands are unique, and are a matched set. For reference, see Ken Roberts book The Contributions of Joseph Ives to Connecticut Clock Making, pages 169-170. Fig 52A shows the movement, and 52B the complete clock; this reference clock is displayed at the American Clock and Watch Museum in Bristol, and it is interesting to note that the lower tablet is also clear on the museum example. Roberts book gives additional details on this movement. Ht 29.5" [75cm]
