Condition: two of the angelus arbors, 4 hammers and one of the gongs are in a plastic bag inside the clock. In spite of needing some attention, this is a very well made movement of large, robust proportions, with rack striking. The plates measure 8.5" [21.5mm] wide by 4.2 [11cm] The time train is running, and the strike train is complete, but needs care to get it to strike reliably. In 47 years of collecting, I have not seen an angelus with 7 gongs. The going barrel for the angelus is quite large, and with an odd governor and complex pinned wheel for the notes. Of note is the fact that the painting is backed by pine, and the movement is screwed on directly behind the painting, which is hinged and the left and swings out for winding and service. The movement is original, but has been re-positioned slightly, resulting in one set of empty holes. The oil on canvas painting is of large stone monastery in the Alps, on a lake with some boats. The small silvered clock dial in one of the large towers of the building. Frame has been re-gilded. A very special picture clock. Ht 36" [91.5cm] by width, 42" [107cm]
