C.1905, Colonial Mfg Co., Zeeland, MI, GOTHIC HALL CLOCK , 3-weight, 9-tubular bell, Whittington and Westminster chimes, in mahogany.
Condition: this clock came out of a home in Fairfield, Conn, and has been standing idle for some time; silk curtains are shredding. However it does still tick and chime. Has a heavy and high quality German movement marked HWN "Hausuhrenfabrik Winterhalder, Neustadt", on the dial. This sunstantial case predates Colonial bankruptcy in 1906, and the heavy case is typical of those that were being made for Frank Herschede and others at the time, including locking access doors, and heavy front door with lock and cantilever hinges. The rolling moon is in nice condition, the gilt portions of the dial have gone dark and the silvering also has oxidation. Levers at 9 and 3 are for chime/no chime and strike/no strike; open right door and a lever gives you choice of quarter chime tune. All tubes, weights, crank, pendulum are original; pendulum fell once and has a small dent near the top. The particular Gothic case has more detail and more eye appeal than most later models pictured in various catalogs. Ht 96" [244cm]
