C.1820, Silas Hoadley, 8-Day, Pull wind, 2-weight tall case clock as-found.
Condition: this clock has been in storage in Virginia for some time. The movement was apart when we found it and we put the basic parts back together, however, the fan needs fitting and 2 gears are missing. (Movement will need a trip to Dr. Bruno's for 2 gears and repair to back plate). Country pine case has a natural oil finish; hood was made to have a glass slide over the dial, and that slot is now filled on the top (can be restored). The hour hand is old, the minute hand is modern, of proper type. The painted wooden dial is in relatively good condition; the chapter ring has been re-lined, and at some time the dial was attached to a brass works, and was drilled for winding, and now those holes are nicely filled and painted with false arbors. 8-day wooden tall clocks are relatively hard to find, and in spite of the dial being unsigned, the unique Hoadley movement is readily identifiable. You can find a research foto of this movement in Palmers A Treasury of American Clocks, [1967], page 22. No Pendulum; no weights; no bell (All available from Geo. Bruno). Ht 82" [208cm]
