C.1825, Western Pennsylvania Tall Case, with an 8-day painted dial, English movement, signed G. Savage, Huddersfield.
Anonymous (not verified)
22 October 2024
Condition: the heavy and well made case is in need of some serious veneer attention, along the chamfered corners of the case and at the throat section of the hood. There are other chips in the solid moldings, especially along the edge of the door. George Savage began his clockmaking career in Huddersfield, England, and was the patentee on a remontoire design, and did much to perfect the lever escapement, besides inventing the 2-pin pallet variety. In his old age he emigrated to Montreal, Canada, and founded a flourishing retail business. (this info from Britten's, 9th edition). Two weights do not match; old pendulum bob needs a rod, second hand lacking. Ht 93" [236cm]
