Condition: this clock is in exceptional original condition, and rare besides, the number of pillar clocks with this scale amounting to perhaps 2% of all clocks produced. A nearly identical clock is cataloged at the Science Museum, London, a foto of that clock shown in Alan Smith's International Dictionary of clocks. The small pear shaped pointer on the cross bar is positioned according to the season of the year, eliminating the need for changing the scale, adjusting the numerals, or switching foliots as required on other Japanese models. Balance type skeletonized movement is sound and ticks. Rare. Height 16 inches [41cm]
