C.1830, Robert Roskell, Liverpool, Astro Dial floor regulator, 1-wt, 8-day.
Condition: the solid mahogany case (with frontal veneers) is well made and with heavy cast brass hinges; the back was made of 2 vertical boards and they have shrunk, and a center connector was added some time ago the keep the back solid. The case has been refinished. The movement is of typical Roskell quality, with heavy baluster pillars, maintaining power and dead beat escapement. Note this is a true regulator movement with both the hour arbor and the minute arbor driven directly off the great wheel. The pendulum stick is old, however the brass sheath and bob are made from a modern German tall case weight+shell. The concept is OK, and many regulators had a similar looking bob, however you could probably improve on this. The painted dial has started to flake, and needs a trip to the Dial House for stabilizing, the signature is weak, but still readable; the city of Liverpool is still very clear. An accurate timekeeper that will respond to some additional restoration. Height 78 inches [195cm]
