C.1880, French, Guilmet, Paris, Industrial Series "Lighthouse" Automaton shelf clock, gong striking movement with Brocot escapement, the helical spring /torsion balance forming the animated "light" of the tapered brickwork case, serial No. 1019.

Condition: this clock is from a home in Vermont, and has been well cared for over the years. The case is a bit oxidized, nothing that will not clean off with mild cleaner, dial is worn at the winding holes, and with a scratch. Does run and strike, but will not keep going, and will surely respond to service. The movement with Guilmet Gold Medal award medallion. We sold the sister to this clock in Nov. 2000, lot 312 for $11,000+. For reference, see Derek Roberts' book titled Mystery, Novelty and Fantasy Clocks, page 257. There is extensive information on Andre Romain Guilmet gathered by Mr. Roberts, and also copies of several of his patents in the book Height 24 inches [61cm]
