C.1880, French, Ormolu and Marble, Double Figure mantel clock with double dial perpetual calendar, 8-day. Condition: the dial is signed by the retailer, W. C. Shaw, Paris. Both dials are excellent and with original hands; minor scratch in calendar dial near Nov; calendar has equation of time scale ring inside the months. Clock depicts two ladies in repose in the garden at a large open topped garden urn. Although Dana cleaned this clock in 1968 and again in 1980 and 1992, he concentrated on the movement, and the gilt figures have picked up their share of surface dirt [use solution, not rubbing to clean these]; there is also some loss to the gilding. Dana made a new rear dust cover, and his maintenance record is glued thereon. This is a large and heavy clock and will need a substantial place to hold it properly. Width 24" ht 18"
