C.1825, Scottish, R. [Robert] Wilkie, Cupar-Fife, WORLD TIME skeleton clock, with conventional 12 hour dial on one side and 24 dial opposite engraved with approx 52 major worldwide locations, single bell passing strike, fusee and large great wheel.

Condition: there have been odd bits of restoration over the years, pendulum repaired, F/S adjuster at top of frame was misunderstood by a repairman and no longer functions properly. The wheels are all nicely spoked, larger wheels with 6 crossings, and smaller wheels [including motion wheels] with 5 crossings. The round dome has a chunk of glass missing in the rear, but still keeps dust out. The large fusee has a round channel and was always meant to have gut/cable rather than chain. Geographic locations shown in just one small section: New Zealand, New Hebrides Great S. Sea, Q. Charlotte Isles, Botany Bay, Peley Islands and Endeavour Strait. Britten's lists this maker in Fife from 1792--1830, and shows that the Scots were influenced by the skeleton clocks being made in France from the mid 1700s. Ht of clock 15", ht of clock and bases 26", overall with dome 29"
