C.1830, Austrian, Grand Sonnerie mantel automaton, Maid at the Pump, 3-train, silk thread suspension, 1-day duration. Condition: fair to good as-found condition; the case has several dry splits; the rear dust cover is missing, dial with cracks and chips; paint is faded on the girl and pump. There is no animation for the quarter gong; when the hour starts to strike there is double animation the water wheel left of center turns and the maid vigorously pulls the pump handle with each strike. This clock has not been cleaned in a century, but is a tribute to Viennese workmanship, still belts out the full strike and animation when you pull the repeat string. Case has warped and bezel needs re-aligning on top drum. Height 18 inches
