Chelsea Clock Co. Ship's-Type Clock from the U.S. 84th Infantry Division Headquarters,

silvered dial marked Chelsea Clock Co./Boston, U.S.A., Arabic on chapter ring, outer minute ring marked with ticks, every 5 bold and every quarter hour a triangle with seconds dial above center with Arabic every 10 seconds, brass time only spring driven movement, in original cast brass case with brass bezel engraved Headquarters Eighty-Fourth Division, reverse of case with case Chelsea/Clock Co. and serial number 84055, 2.75" deep x 5.5" diameter. Includes original leather and lamb's wool lined carrying case with strap. The 84th formed into an infantry division in 1917. Tradition has it that the unit can trace its lineage to the Illinois militia company in which Captain Abraham Lincoln served during the Black Hawk War (1832). Its personnel were recruited primarily from Illinois, Wisconsin and Kentucky. When they formed, they thus chose the nickname "Railsplitters" and designed their unit patch with a white axe head splitting a rail on a red ground. The unit served in World Wars I and II in Europe, although in the former, it served primarily for training. Deployed late in 1944 in WWII the unit nonetheless saw heavy action inpushing German troops back across their border, and were heavily engaged during the Battle of the Bulge in the Ardennes. After the war it was reorganized as an Airborne Division, again serving as a reserve and training unit until 1991. (Wikipedia) Condition report Minor wear to finish, currently not running properly.
