Tobey Flemish Hall Clock with Tiffany & Co. Dial with silvered brass dial marked Tiffany & Co.,
made by J.J. Elliot, Ltd. of London with applied brass Arabic on chapter ring, outer minute ring marked with ticks and triangles every 5 minutes, silvered seconds dial above center with Arabic every 10 seconds, set in central scroll cut brass floral center with matching spandrels, silvered tombstone top with engraved world hemispheres, and painted phase of the moon dial with English cottage scene. The movement is also by Elliot with three-train steel pinion, dead beat escapement, time, strike and chiming 3-weight driven brass movement with 5 tubular Westminster chimes, signed Elite Patent Dec. 4, 1900. Case made by the Toby Furniture Co., in Chicago, No. 31168 (see Duy Ly, 1994: 422, fig. 979) case attributed to R.J. Horner and Company (New York), retailed by the Tobey Furniture Company, Chicago, ca 1900, in cherry and mahogany with poplar secondary wood. The case has elaborately carved decoration including a mask on the crown and pipers flanking the hood door, as well as lion heads, a devil, and cherubs on the waist, and lion heads and a carved medieval tavern scene on the base, all resting on bun feet. silvered and brass dial marked Tiffany & Co. with Arabic on silvered chapter ring with floral engraving, outer minute ring marked with ticks with triangles every 5 minutes, seconds dial above center with Arabic every 10 seconds, center with pierced brass floral scroll work and matching spandrels, polychrome painted phase of the moon dial with English cottage scene in arch with silvered engraved hemispheres, unmarked 8-day time, strike and chime weight driven movement, with seat plate stamped 4990, 5 tube chimes, 16" x 23" x 102" high. Condition report Crack in waist door glass, lower left corner, some flaking on phase of moon dial, a few minor repaired breaks on carving and replaced fabric on back, currently running.
