American Clock Hutch with Folksy Carving,
walnut, mahogany and pine with rectangular clock hutch case, highly relief carved in a naturalistic forested landscape motif with front flanked by two tree stumps, surmounted by carved owls. Removable top is carved in the form of leafing tree branches with central vase-like carving. Clock is in box with carved front in form of wreath of tree branches with leaves, above a recessed panel with two carved deer. Sides are also carved with high-relief leafing branches. This box rests on platform with back panel having leafing trees that flank the hutch. In front of these are full carved deer in fitted carved grassy base, one with glass eyes and separately applied ears, and second with glass trade bead eyes, missing ears. Below this platform is a moulding of carved leaves in swag arrangement and a full carved bracket in the form of a leafing tree with a man seated in the forward extending crotch of same, all in old second varnish, 17" x 7" x 24" high, with brackets for mounting on wall. The clock is a Seth Thomas (?) Patent Lever Escapement marine clock with painted tin dial with above text, Roman numerals, and fast/slow lever, with brass 8-day time only spring-driven movement in brass circular case with original wooden back with remnants of old printed paper label, 5.75" diameter x 3" deep. Condition report Hutch as above with some old repairs to case and gentleman in tree is missing left foot. Clock not currently working with paint loss to dial.
