Ct. Pearl Inlaid Iron Shelf Clock, ca 1840's with original painted tin dial with radial Roman numerals on chapter ring with minute ticks in outer ring and dots at each 10 minute mark. Brass time and strike spring-driven movement. Cast iron case with original black ground, inset with one of the more elaborate displays of mother of pearl scroll work with gilt surround we have seen in this form of clock. Waist of case has polychrome hand-painted landscape with gilt scroll work surround, other areas with vining floral. Brass hinged bezel with domed crystal and push button release at left side of case. Stepped-out base with brass hinged circular door with original clear cover glass to allow viewing of brass pendulum. Winding squares located just outside of bezel near V & VII. Case has original pine back board with partial illustrated paper label by above maker, Condition report Currently running; we do not guarantee working order of clocks.
