Virginia Tall Case Clock, signed P. Henneberger,
hand-painted polychrome steel dial with moon phase in arch with landscape and world hemispheres, Roman numerals in chapter ring and Arabic on outer seconds ring, second hand dial above center and calendar dial below, marked P. Henneberger Harrisonburg (Henneberger worked in Harrisonburg, Virginia between 1813-1825), spandrels with painted sea shells with brass eight-day British bell-strike movement, original American tin can weights and lead filled brass semi-circular pendulum. String inlaid cherry case with white pine secondary. The dovetailed bonnet has a broken arch crest with mahogany inlaid rosettes bordered with satin wood string inlay, rectangular fluted plinths at front corners and center with brass finials, cove molded side returns. Below the crest the bonnet has a band of mahogany flanked at top and bottom with satin wood string inlay, mahogany arched top door with original brass mushroom knob. The lower case has satin wood oval string inlay on door, cove moulding at junction of waist and base and rectangular satin wood string inlay on front of base with canted corners and original flaring French feet. There is a band of mahogany with satin wood string at top and bottom, which matches that on the bonnet, just above the feet, total height 106" x maximum width 20" x by maximum depth 11.25". Condition report Replaced finial in period style, old refinishing (ca 1950's) with mellow patina, currently running. We do not guarantee working order of clock.
