Wempe Hamburg Marine Chronometer,
circa 1940; a two-day marine box chronometer with 56-hour winding indicator and Guillaume balance. Cast brass bowl with weighting ring and threaded glazed bezel with beveled glass, gimbaled in two-body mahogany box with mahogany handles, glazed, beveled glass on the top and latch in front. The gimbal ring is locked by swiveling arm mounted in the front right corner. Silvered dial, Arabic hour numerals, subsidiary seconds at 6 o'clock, up-and-down indicator at 12 o'clock, brass "spade" hands. Nickeled full plate, turned pillars secured by screws, fusee and chain, Earnshaw spring-detent escapement, Guillaume cut bimetallic compensation balance with four circular weights, helical balance spring with outer terminal curves. Dial signed Chronometerwerke / Wempe Hamburg No. 7734; clock is 4.75" diameter; case is 7.5" square x 7" high. Condition report Few scratches to case; normal wear; currently running, however, we do not guarantee working order of clocks and watches.
