Chelsea U.S. Army Brass Message Center Mark 1 in Mahogany Case,
circa 1950. A clock with features of the M1 and M2 Message Center clocks made by Chelsea for the U.S. Army, in original mahogany finished wooden carrying case with leather strap handle. Housed in a brass case with screw-type bezel and 4.5" dial with black background with etched luminous primary and secondary numerals and dots at each hour for use with the 24-hour military time system. Dial is marked Chelsea Clock Co. / Boston and U.S. Army / Clock Message Center, M1. The sweep second, hour and minute hands are painted in the same material. Time is set by a knurled knob on the left side, with winding through the front of the dial. Micrometer type fast-slow regulator. Fitted with Chelsea's 8-day, 12E movement. Both clock and case marked with serial number 571,891 (1950-1954). Case is 8" high x 7.75" across x 5.25" deep.
