Harris Griffin & Co. Philadelphia Skeleton Clock,
Anonymous (not verified)
23 October 2024
with brass chain driven fusee movement, on an oval ebonized wood base with glass dome. Inscribed on silver-plated bell "Harris Griffin & Co./Philadelphia/Makers". Black and white enameled dial with Roman numerals, dimensions in dome are 13" wide x 7.5" deep x 17.5" high. We could find no reference to Harris Griffin & Co., though Spittler et al. (2001) lists "Harris & Co." as circa 1830 Philadelphia silversmith, noted for importing Black Forest works for tall case and wag-on-the-wall clocks. We suspect this clock is largely composed of English parts, but assembled in Philadelphia, and retailed as an American product.Condition:Minor chips around base of glass dome; while movement appears fine we do not guarantee working condition.
