Dayton Ohio Picture Frame Clock, 8-day time and strike, wagon spring-driven, brass movement, believed to be No. 35, painted tin dial, Roman numerals and marked J. Jameson Dayton. Dial set in circular mahogany frame which is set in oil painting on canvas of an English country view of river with boat and castle ruins in background. All mounted in a cove-molded mahogany frame with hinged glass door, dovetailed poplar case with original brass hangers and mahogany stain. Original finish, glass and hardware. 23.5" high x 26.5" wide x 3.75" deep. Jacob Jameson moved to Ohio from PA where he worked as a clockmaker as early as 1818. Arrived in Springfield in 1823, moved to Cincinnati in 1831, but left due to cholera outbreak. Arrived in Dayton in late 1832 and still listed as in Dayton in 1855, but apparently no longer in clock business. Reputed to be the only known clock of this type by Jameson with wagon spring movement.Ex Paul A. Heffner Collection.Minor inpainting in sky portion of painting, does not affect image. Otherwise, EXC.
