Condition: the last owner disliked the tarnish on the frame and so had all 4 plates, the pillars and the spring barrels 24K gold plated. If you'd like a chiming skeleton that will never need polishing, this is for you. Much has been written about skeleton clocks, first by Royer-Collard, and then in 1987, the book titled British Skeleton Clocks, by Derek Roberts. Please see his book, pages 145-48 for discourse on this frame design. Roberts describes Evans unparalleled success with his Scott Memorial frame and how it led him to produce clocks inspired by other buildings. When this clock was restored around 1965, a good old dome was found and a black walnut base made to match. The clock frame has some guide pins, but is not attached to the base, so be careful if you move the clock around. Ht of frame = 21.25; ht of dome and base = 27"
