C.1885, Wm. L. Gilbert, "LATONA", Walnut shelf clock, 8-day time and cathedral gong strike, variant.

Condition: the signed spring movement is original to the case, however the case is channeled for a weight movement which was the original design. Gilbert modified their weight movement (which previously was spring for strike and wt for time) to operate with a spring on both sides. This is a definite factory job, with Geneva stops both sides. The feet have been replaced with simple blocks, and top left dentil is missing; otherwise it is in very good original condition; with good paper dial [darkening], hands, pendulum and hardware. Our guess is that Gilbert changed movement design to reduce customer problems. Note also this model was to compete against the ST Garfield. Ht 30.5"
