Balance/verge escapement C.1870. the key is modern, sized to fit, however, it fits in the original key drawer at bottom. The hood is original to the case. Front glass is original with a crack, we provide a replacement glass that is cut to fit. movement hood latch, time pointer and numerals are all original. Front panel of hood slides up for winding. Note that Emperor Mutsuhito brought a lot of modernization to Japan, and this clock would have been made early in his reign; by 1900 they had entirely adopted the Western "fixed time" system.
