English, Thomas Hunter, Jr, London (156 Fenchurch St, 1761 -- 1802), arched brass dial 8-day tall clock in a typical London style mahogany case. C.1790.

Case retains an old finish in good condition; there are veneer repairs on the top door and a couple other places; finials are later; top center finial incorrect. On the well made movement, a workman has removed the bell and drilled the bell hammer to accept a wire and pad to strike a C.1920 spiral gong on an iron base. The brass dial has a subsidiary dial in the arch for Strike and Silent, and a calendar aperture above 6; chapter ring in need of re-waxing and silvering; name cartouche needs silvering. Period weights, brass covered, are both in good shape. The movement is easily converted back to bell strike if one desires. Height 97 inches with top finial on, 92" with top finial off.
