T. E. Burleigh, Jr, Winchester, Mass, reproduction "Grafton Wall Clock" in the manner of Aaron Willard, and the dial engraved with the Willard name, in a mahogany case made to the highest standards, C.1980, one bell at the hour passing strike, and seconds
Ted was kind enough to apply a label to virtually all of his clocks, and to sign them in ink as well, making it easy for us to document them. This one is serial No. 46. Ted was also astute enough to design these to run for a week, since the originals only go for a day. Although we have not sold one since Nov 2002, our friends at Skinners, Inc, sold one Feb 15, 2009 (just last year) for $9480. Simon and Aaron Willard perfected this model clock in the late 1790s, and originals are on display at Boston's Museum of Fine Art, Old Sturbridge Village and also New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art. Their design is discussed in detail in "A Study of Simon Willard's Clocks", by Husher and Welch (1980), pgs 7-30. Although the originals are priceless, these well made copies have garnered substantial interest. In running order. Ht 25.5"
