Gale, "Drop Calendar No. 2", mfg by Welch, Spring and Co., Forestville, Conn, with full perpetual calendar correcting for short months and leap year and in addition with an equation dial that indicates the time of sunrise and sunset for every 7th day. Additional dials show the day of the week and the 29 days for phases of the moon, rosewood case, 8-day, gong striking. C.1875, mov't stamped "Pat'd Aug 30, 1870" the case hanger has been replaced [this one is large and will not fail]. The graining came off the top bezel when the case was refinished. The movement was cleaned and adjusted in 2006, a note by the repairman on the calendar mov't. The label is very good+ and the original painted dial is excellent; note it retains the 1871 patent info {see Ly's calendar book, pages 46--53}, seems to run and strike OK. Ht 30".
