English, John Stevenson, Stafford, C.1770, diminutive oak cased square dial (12") tall clock, 8-day time and strike [count wheel off great wheel], 2-wt. With seconds bit below 12, and calendar aperture above 6 and with deeply ringed winding holes. Finely

the case has a new bracket style base, replaced crown moldings and has been refinished. Mov't has been cleaned and ticks and strikes; note the fork for the crutch came un-soldered in shipment, and needs a quick repair. This early mov't was finely ringed baluster pillars. Dial plate is a cast brass and with appropriate casting flaws when viewed from the rear. Minute and hour hand appear original; seconds hand is a replacement [can be shortened easily]. Although this style dial may appear a bit earlier, Britten's lists John Stevenson, Stafford as 1770. Ht 75"
