English, Benjamin Ellis, Woodbridge, C.1830, Composite dial with rocking ship in the arch, 8-day, 2-weight mov't, and with seconds hand and calendar aperture, housed in a mahogany case with Gothic influence and satinwood edging. the plinth has been reinforced and a new skirt with feet has been applied. The case has been re-finished, polished over to improve its appearance. The painted iron dial has an applied silvered-brass chapter ring with matt brass center, and interesting Chinese men in the spandrel areas {all have moustache}. The movement has been cleaned and re-cabled, and is running and striking. A well painted 3-mast sailing ship rocks in the arch. Ht 92
