English tall case clock by John Lord of Farringdon.
Farringdon is in Berkshire, about 15 miles southwest of Oxford. He is listed as working from 1784-97 and his son is listed for 1830. This is a very nice clock with some quality features indicating it was made for an upscale market. The case has been nicely refinished and is made with figured mahogany with matching panels on the door and base. The feet should be replaced but it is otherwise in very good condition. There are reeded columns on the side and hood and they are fitted with polished brass stopfluting. The dial has been repainted. Both hands are old but slightly mismatched. The previous owner had the seatboard replaced because it was weakened by woodworm but it is the original movement for this case. This is an 8 day clock with bell strike. It has been recently serviced and is in good running order. 7' 3" tall.
