Ansonia Clock Co. near the top of the line for crystal regulators, the "Regal", ca 1905.
This metal and glass clock is exceptionally heavy and is comprised of a multitude of cast metal pieces. It originally came out with a rich gold finish, now it is aged and has attracted some household pollutants that need to be cleaned off. I would estimate at least three fourths of the original finish is still present. The case is all original and complete. We see no breaks or repairs. The four beveled glasses are perfect excepting for some grime around the edges. A good cleaning would improve the case immensely. The clock is 18" high, and if you were to remove all the cast ornaments you would get down to a plain crystal regulator, four glasses and the brass rectangular case. The pendulum is large and perfect. The movement is 8 day, rack count, gong strike and is a strong runner. I have turned it every which way inspecting the glasses and case parts, and the pendulum just kept on swinging. Two piece porcelain dial is signed, has some faint hairlines, and has the original hands and open escapement. Ly-Ansonia, pages 109-110. We have seen this model sell all over the board, depending on the type auction, from $5500 to $6720 at a northeast auction just a few years ago. In those cases it is the unsuspecting internet bidders that pay the high dollar.
