Wm. L. Gilbert Clock Co. "No. 11 Regulator", ca 1891.

Walnut case is 50" high, still has the original crusty finish. We have probably sold a dozen of this model over the years but never one this original. The wood parts are original, no repairs evident, and there is a lot of good woodwork from top to bottom. I desperately want to call the glass and putty original, they are old, but after checking similar Gilberts I have, the putty is not original, but the glass is "old"?? The putty and two side glasses are original. The working door lock is operated by the winding crank. Inside, the pendulum, stick, dial, and hands, all look to be original. The signed dial has darkened over time and this one looks like every old Gilbert dial I have ever seen, a dark brown. The 8 day movement is running and original to the case. It is powered by two small brass weights. You will note there is only one winding arbor for two weights. There is one spool that winds both cords at the same time. As the cords unwind each goes to the top of the case and then down each side. I have seen the No. 11's that unwound in different ways. See clock No. 80 in our Jan. 2009 auction. There is no label, and no evidence there ever was. I notice there is no label on other No. 11's I have had. Ly-Gilbert No. 355 and No. 356.
