German Oswald "Skull", ca around 1950. One of the rarest of the Oswald's, and a model seldom seen for sale.
For years collectors have called asking if I had a Skull. All of a sudden we got one, sold it, and now we have had 4 in a row. Unbelievable. None have been alike or even close, the very early Oswald's were carved, the later ones were synthetic materials, i.e. bakelite or some composite. All are correct. I believe this one is made of a bakelite type material, attached to an original base signed, "S / Ges. gesch. / Made In Germany". The skulls chin is signed, "Germany". As you know the eyes tell the time. It winds and sets on the back plate. The one day movement is running, eyes are moving properly. The rotation of the left eye shows the hours, the right eye the minutes. This is the 4th straight auction we have offered a skull clock. See our auctions July 2009 No. 63D, October 2009 No. 49, February 2010 No. 71.
