This model and maybe this very clock may well be the first calendar clock produced by Seth Thomas. They used the mantle clock, "Parlor" (Ly-Seth Thomas, page 516) and put the Huntington and Platt calendar mechanism in the bottom and called it "Parlor Calendar" (Ly-Calendar, page 258) There are two excellent labels inside, both showing place of manufacture as Plymouth Hollow, Conn. and a door label referring to Huntington and Platt as the patentees. The rosewood veneered case is 30.5" high, has had very little veneer restoration and needs none, and the case is clean and polished retaining the original finish. Door lock with key, three glasses are all very good, dials were repainted, roller papers are old, correct gong, pair of old iron weights, old brass bob, and the three hands are probably original or at least period. There are old, like 150 years old, handwritten numbers on the door label, "22837 (5 or S)". This clock may not be Seth Thomas's first calendar clock, but if not, it may be second. One must be optimistic. Ly-Seth Thomas, page 102; Ly-Calendar, page 258.
