This clock is clean inside and outside, has had no repairs or alterations. There is a brass escutcheon in the door, and a working lock and key. A complete paper label inside says in part, "Patent Eight Day Brass Clocks, / With Steel Main Springs / Manufactured And Sold By Chauncey Jerome, New Haven, CT". This mahogany veneered case is 23" tall. The large Gothic case has been cleaned and polished and is like fine furniture. Everything is original including the very nice signed dial and hands. The original tablet is cracked, top left to lower right, but you can hardly see it. An identical clock and movement are pictured in the book, "From Rags To Riches, To Rags: the Story Of Chauncey Jerome", by Chris Bailey, Bulletin Supplement No. 15, Spring 1986, pages 76-77. We have seen only two other Giant Steeple clocks sell, both were around $3000. Ly-American Clocks, Volume 3, page 167, shows pictures of an identical case and movement.
