Very rare Lenzkirch, Vienna Regulator. The 8 day signed movement is spring wound, has an off center winding arbor and is a "Swing Out" movement.
The serial number on the unusual movement is No. 5672. The dating system used by Karl Kochmann and George Everett are conflicting and not completely reliable. Most collectors who know about such things date it about 1884. We are told there is only three of this type Vienna known to exist, outside of those pictured in the Lenzkirch books, and two are in the hands of one collector. This rare clock is one of those two. The case is slender, typical case style for that period, 46" high, 14" wide, walnut veneered case with black accent ornaments, completely original and in excellent condition. It has a near perfect two piece porcelain dial, the correct hands, porcelain beat scale, wall levelers, original (rare) Lenzkirch key, brass pendulum bob, and wood stick. There are three glasses, two finials, and several applied ornaments, all original to the case. There is only one clock of this type pictured in the book by George A. Everett, "Lenzkirch Clocks / The Unsigned Story", page 233.
